Hills Bible Church

We are a church family that consists of young and old with a mixture of many ethnic backgrounds. Hills Bible Church was formed in 2009 and moved to its current location in 2013. It is our mission to see believers: KNOW God’s Word (2 Timothy 2:15) LIVE by God’s Word (1 Peter 1:22 – 2:3) COMMIT to God’s work (Romans 12:1-2) IMPACT God’s world (Matthew 28:18-20) Our mission is to produce faithful disciples of Jesus Christ who in turn make disciples (Matt 4:19, 28:18-20). This is articulated in the following vision statement: “HBC exists to glorify God by making, maturing, and multiplying disciples of Jesus Christ in our local communities and to the least reached peoples of the earth.”

On Sunday, 22 September Pastor Craig Baxter continued the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'God of the Impossible' from Genesis 18:1-15.
Is anything too hard for the Lord for God’s covenant people? This is the question we are forced to ask from this study. In a second theophany the Lord visited Abraham, along with two angels. After sharing a meal prepared by the household of Abraham, the Lord announced the fulfillment of the promise, declaring, in rebuke of Sarah’s laughter, that nothing is too hard for the Lord. In this study we learn that God magnifies Himself by doing the impossible for His covenant children who believe.
God is magnified through covenant relationship (vv. 1-8)
God is magnified when His covenant people belief Him to perform His seemingly impossible promises (vv. 9-15)

On Sunday, 15 September Pastor Craig Baxter continued the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'Has God Finished With Israel' from Romans 11:1-36.
As we have studied the covenant promises God made with Abraham and His descendants in Genesis 12, 15 and 17 we are left with the question, what group of people do those promises relate to? Is it the church, the nation of Israel or both? In Romans 11 Paul discusses the failure of national Israel and how that resulted in blessings for the Gentiles. However, Paul looks forward to the future to show God’s faithfulness toward Israel and how God always fulfills His promises. In this study we learn that since God has set aside Israel for their hardness of heart we should be all the more diligent to pray for the lost and make our salvation sure by responding to God’s grace with wonder and obedience.
God’s character demands Israel’s preservation (11:1)
Paul’s conversion establishes Israel’s preservation (11:1-2a)
God’s past preservation confirms Israel’s preservation (11:2b-6)
God’s redemptive program demands Israel’s preservation (11:11, 13-14, 25-26)

We live in a world where dating too often begins with a split-second decision and is geared toward a casual relationship with no clear goal in mind. As a result, single people can feel discouraged, used or unworthy of true love and affection. This can lead to a sense of loneliness and despair, leaving the person spiritually and physically vulnerable. There must be a better way. And there is. For the Lord who made male and female, along with marriage, gives wisdom from His Word for singles, and those who influence them, whether they be friends or family.  This wisdom enables them to navigate their way through the dating minefield in a way that protects purity, honours God and leads to discerning His perfect will. Who should attend this class? This class is for everyone: singles, their friends and parents to help guide their children in the second most important question they will face.

Lesson 7: Things that can go wrong in our dating culture (8 September)

Wednesday Sep 11, 2024

“The most portentous [significant] fact about any man is not what he at a given time may say or do, but what he in his deep heart conceives God to be like.” ~ A.W. Tozer. What the individual or nation thinks about God shapes everything about them. So what do YOU think of God? Beyond doctrines, what do you, in your deep heart, conceive God to be like? Many struggle with His seemingly severe rule over man, especially as seen in the Old Testament. In this class, we’ll study God’s Old Testament kingly rule over the nations by means of His laws, judgements, dealings with and expectations of His people and the nations. Our hope is that as we explore the character of God through His rule, you will love and long for the past, present and future kingly rule of God.

Lesson 7 - The King & The Exiled People (8 September 2024)

Wednesday Sep 11, 2024

On Sunday, 8 September Pastor Craig Baxter continued the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'God's Pledge and Our Devotion' from Genesis 17:1-27.
The Lord confirmed His covenant with Abram by establishing the covenant rite of circumcision as the sign of obedient faith. God also attested to its promises by changing his name to Abraham, meaning “Father of a multitude,” and his wife’s name to Sarah. As a result Abraham obeyed immediately and completely, circumcising himself, his son Ishmael and all the men in his house. In this study we learn that the Almighty God reigns over the universe and over every detail of our lives and His covenant people are to respond in wholehearted devotion to Him, and not cold religious law keeping.
God’s new revelation (vv. 1-2)God’s new pledge (vv. 3-8; 15:22)God’s new command (vv. 9-14; 23-27)

Lesson 6: The King and His Messengers (1 September 2024)

Tuesday Sep 03, 2024

On Sunday, 1 September Pastor Craig Baxter continued the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'When we Run Ahead of God' from Genesis 16:1-16.
Sarai and Abram generated many complications by their attempt to obtain an heir through the social customs of the day, causing Hagar to flee to the desert. However, the Lord showed Himself faithful by responding to Hagar’s affliction with mercy, providing for her needs, and promising her progeny through Abram’s son, Ishmael. Abram and Sarai were to learn that God hears their prayers and sees their plight. In this study we learn that instead of running ahead of God’s plan during affliction we should respond by patiently trusting in the Lord because He hears the afflicted, He sees them in their need, and He will fulfill His promises.
Those who run ahead of God and seek to accomplish God’s plans by their own means only complicate their lives (vv. 1-6) The struggle of waiting on God (vv. 1-2a) The solution that left God out (vv. 2b-3) The miserable success of self-made solutions (vv. 4-6) Since God hears, sees and promises, believers can wait and obey (vv. 7-16) God hears (v. 11) God sees (v. 13) God promises (vv. 10, 12) God commands (v. 9)

On Sunday, 25 August Pastor Johan Ferreira delivered 'The Salt of the Earth' from Matthew 5:13.
Salt, Sodium Chloride (NaCl) was a very precious commodity in the ancient world. It was expensive and had a wide range of uses. According to Pliny, “A civilised life is impossible without salt.” In the same way, the world would be lost without the church of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Lord Jesus encourages His disciples to be the salt of the earth so that they may not lose heart but be courageous to influence the world for good.
