Hills Bible Church

We are a church family that consists of young and old with a mixture of many ethnic backgrounds. Hills Bible Church was formed in 2009 and moved to its current location in 2013. It is our mission to see believers: KNOW God’s Word (2 Timothy 2:15) LIVE by God’s Word (1 Peter 1:22 – 2:3) COMMIT to God’s work (Romans 12:1-2) IMPACT God’s world (Matthew 28:18-20) Our mission is to produce faithful disciples of Jesus Christ who in turn make disciples (Matt 4:19, 28:18-20). This is articulated in the following vision statement: “HBC exists to glorify God by making, maturing, and multiplying disciples of Jesus Christ in our local communities and to the least reached peoples of the earth.”

David is one of the most well-known Bible characters. Even the world knows about him, at least about the David and Goliath story. But do they really know how much David means to the biblical narrative, how much he stands not just as an example of what (and what not) to do, but as a pointer to Christ. David is the great king of Israel, but he is but a shadow of the true King. The world doesn't know this, but do you know this? In this class we'll take a close look at 10 events/aspects of David's life, what they mean, what we can learn and how each of them connects to Christ or the gospel.

Have you ever tried, failed, and wondered why? Or perhaps someone you know has and has asked you to help them. If so, then this class is for you. In it we will explain the biblical pattern for real change in a clear, practical way that you can apply to the challenges of your daily life. You will also be better equipped to help others. This class will help you understand the underlying motivations for your actions and give you specific, practical help in changing long-standing patterns of behaviour, so you, and those you help, can grow in love for God and others. This class is based on the book and training course, How People Change, by authors Timothy Lane and Paul David Tripp. This class is for all who simply want to live a sanctified life and help others to do the same.

Lesson 3: Change is a community project

Monday May 06, 2024

On Sunday, 5 May Pastor Craig Baxter continued the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'God's Grief Over a Wicked World' from Genesis 6:1-8.
Genesis 6 begins the story of the single greatest disaster in all human history where God determines to wipe out the entire population of the world except Noah and his family. This was in response to the wickedness on the earth, in which angels and humans overstepped their bounds, committing unrestrained idolatry and fornication, and completely giving their hearts and minds to evil continually. However, within this depravity, Noah and his family were the recipients of God’s grace and were saved. In this lesson we learn that compromise toward sin leads to corruption that brings God grief and leads to His judgement for all who reject His grace.
Sin starts with compromise (vv. 1-2, 4)
Sin leads to corruption (v. 5)
Sin deeply grieves God and brings His judgement (vv. 6-7)
God extends grace to the unworthy (vv. 3, 8)

Walking with God | Genesis 5

Monday Apr 29, 2024

Monday Apr 29, 2024

On Sunday, 28 April Pastor Craig Baxter continued the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'Walking with God' from Genesis 5.
Despite the effects of the curse, the image of God, stamped upon all humanity, remained. God’s promise of death to Adam also flowed to every generation, as seen in the continual refrain, “and he died”. However, contrasted to this, like a diamond on a black velvet, is the hope of life for those who walk with God, as seen in the person of Enoch. Enoch provides an example to us of what it means to escape the spiritual effects of the fall and receive life by faith affirmed by our walk with God. In this lesson we learn that those who walk with God break the generational curse of death caused by sin and live with the joyful hope of eternal life.
The universal blessing of life (vv. 1-3)
The universal curse of death (vv. 4-20)
The available hope of life after death (vv. 21-32)

Lesson 1: Where is God taking us?

Wednesday Apr 24, 2024

On Sunday, 21 April Pastor Craig Baxter continued the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'The Illusion of Progress' from Genesis 4:17-26.
Our passage contrasts two seeds: the unrighteous seed of Cain and the righteous seed of Seth. The narrator provides us with a picture of the predominant theme of each lineage. While Cain’s lineage was remembered for technological advancements this was overshadowed by great moral depravity. In contrast little is said about Seth’s line, but what is stated is far greater indeed. They were remembered as a people who called upon the name of the Lord in faith and dependence. In this lesson we learn that true, lasting progress in this world is determined by the name we seek to advance.
The illusion of progress (vv. 17-24)
They seek stability and permanence in themselves (v. 17)
They see progress as their highest goal (vv. 18-22)
They glory in evil (vv. 23-24)
The reality of progress (vv. 25-26)
Trust in God’s promises (v. 25)
Acknowledge man’s frailty (v. 26a)
Proclaim God’s name (v. 26b)

Tuesday Apr 16, 2024

On Sunday, 14 April Pastor Craig Baxter returned to the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'The Peril of Playing Church' from Genesis 4:1-16.
In spite of God’s warning against sin, Cain, a tiller of the ground, murdered his brother, Abel, a shepherd of the sheep, because his brother’s offering was accepted and his was not. When confronted Cain denied responsibility for the crime and protested the severity of the punishment, prompting God to provide protection for him. Cain is an example of a worshipper who lacks faith and sincerity and acts as a warning to all who believe they can play church and expect to get away with it. In this study we learn that unbelief within leads to devastating consequences without if left unchecked.
Outward pretence of true worship (vv. 1-5a)
Anger toward those more faithful (v. 5b)
Ambivalence toward God’s warnings (vv. 6-8)
Rejection of a responsibility for sin (vv. 9-10)
Complaint over God’s judgement (vv. 10-16)
If you feel blessed by this message, we encourage you to share this video with someone who may not know of God's enduring grace.
