The Warning of Babel | Genesis 11:1-9

On Sunday, 30 June Pastor Craig Baxter continued the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'The Warning of Babel' from Genesis 11:1-9. Over time the human race, under the leadership of Nimrod (Gen 10:10), collectively decided to settle together to preserve their unity and develop their fame by building a grandiose city and tower. As a result of this collective rebellion and apostasy, the Lord severely judged them by scattering them across the face of the earth in confusing the language that united them. This was an act of grace by God which would protect humanity from carrying out a similar wholesale rebellion in the future. In this lesson we learn that those who proudly stand against the Sovereign God in their rebellion will always lose.
Man’s foolishness: “Come let us make” (vv. 1-3)
Man’s sinfulness: “Come let us build” (v. 4)
God’s gracious judgement: “Come let us confuse” (vv. 5-9)

In it we will explain the biblical pattern for real change in a clear, practical way that you can apply to the challenges of your daily life. You will also be better equipped to help others. This class will help you understand the underlying motivations for your actions and give you specific, practical help in changing long-standing patterns of behaviour, so you, and those you help, can grow in love for God and others. This class is based on the book and training course, How People Change, by authors Timothy Lane and Paul David Tripp. This class is for all who simply want to live a sanctified life and help others to do the same.

David is the great king of Israel, but he is but a shadow of the true King. The world doesn't know this, but do you know this? In this class we'll take a close look at 10 events/aspects of David's life, what they mean, what we can learn and how each of them connects to Christ or the gospel.

Lesson 8: Cross: The centre of change

Love that Covers | Genesis 9:18-28

On Sunday, 9 June Pastor Craig Baxter continued the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'Love that Covers' from Genesis 9:18-28.
What we do, whether righteous or sinful, always has lasting ramifications for those around us, especially our children. Noah unwisely became drunk with wine and left himself exposed naked in his tent. As a result Ham had responded with disrespect, whereas Shem and Japheth had respectfully covered their father’s nakedness. This caused Noah to curse Canaan, the descendant of Ham, with slavery, but to bless Shem and Japheth. After 950 years Noah died, like all his ancestors pre-flood. In this lesson we learn that God will bless the righteous who turn away from evil and curse those who act with immoral conceit.
We must respond to sin with righteous purity instead of immoral conceit (vv. 18-23)
Noah’s disgraceful fall (vv. 20-21)
Ham’s immoral conceit (v. 22)
Shem and Japeth’s righteous purity (v. 23)
God will bless the righteous and curse those who act with immoral conceit (vv. 24-29)
