Our Covenant God | Genesis 15:1-21
Our Covenant God | Genesis 15:1-21
Abram lived by faith and not by sight, believing the promises of God, which was counted to him as righteousness (v. 6). However, in our passage Abram asked God for confirmation that the promise of offspring and land would indeed come to pass. In response God made a covenant with Abram to ratify His promise. Instead of both parties affirming the agreement, only God obligated himself to ensure His promise would be carried out, though not before a long period of enslavement. In this study we learn that God brings salvation to His people that they might live by faith in His covenant promises, guaranteed by His blood, despite delay and difficulty.
- Our Covenant God meets us in our fears and doubts with assurance (vv. 1-5)
- Our Covenant God credits faith in His promises with righteousness (v. 6)
- Our Covenant God affirms His promises with a signed contract (vv. 7-12, 17-21)
- Our Covenant God honours his promises, but not before delays and difficulties (vv. 13-16)
