Love that Covers | Genesis 9:18-28
On Sunday, 9 June Pastor Craig Baxter continued the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'Love that Covers' from Genesis 9:18-28.
What we do, whether righteous or sinful, always has lasting ramifications for those around us, especially our children. Noah unwisely became drunk with wine and left himself exposed naked in his tent. As a result Ham had responded with disrespect, whereas Shem and Japheth had respectfully covered their father’s nakedness. This caused Noah to curse Canaan, the descendant of Ham, with slavery, but to bless Shem and Japheth. After 950 years Noah died, like all his ancestors pre-flood. In this lesson we learn that God will bless the righteous who turn away from evil and curse those who act with immoral conceit.
- We must respond to sin with righteous purity instead of immoral conceit (vv. 18-23)
- Noah’s disgraceful fall (vv. 20-21)
- Ham’s immoral conceit (v. 22)
- Shem and Japeth’s righteous purity (v. 23)
- God will bless the righteous and curse those who act with immoral conceit (vv. 24-29)
