God's Grace and Our Habitual Sin | Genesis 20:1-18

On Sunday, 24 November Pastor Craig Baxter continued the series 'Genesis: God's Unveiling Plan of Redemption and Blessing' with 'God's Grace and Our Habitual Sin' from Genesis 20:1-18.

When Abraham entered the region of Gerar he fell back into his old sin of deception. As he did in Genesis 12, he declared that Sarah, his wife, was his sister which resulted in Abimelech taking Sarah into his harem, putting God’s covenantal promise in danger of being derailed. However, God intervened to preserve Sarah’s purity, warning Abimelech to restore the woman to her husband, make restitution for the offense and ask for intercession from Abraham the prophet. In this study we learn that by grace God exposes our habitual sins in order that we might grow in holiness and be reminded that we only stand on the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

God’s saints are fallible … (vv. 1-2)
But God shows His grace to fallible saints (vv. 7-18)

1. Despite our fallibility God does not abandon us (vv. 3-7)
2. God confronts us with our sin to protect and restore us (vv. 8-13)
3. God uses our sin for good (vv. 14-16)
